Completing your divorce application- Form D8
First, let’s look at how to do this on paper
Divorce on paper
Go to the Divorce Manual resources section and open up form D8, the divorce application.
Whether you complete this online or in paper form you should find most of the explanatory notes clear and helpful.
In section 8 of the form, where the guidance notes refer to child arrangements and dividing money and property I provide further information and help in other chapters of the Divorce Manual, such as:
Chapter 8- How to reach your own maintenance agreement
Chapter 9- How to reach your own financial agreement
Chapter 10- How to treat pensions on divorce
Chapter 11- How to treat business interest on divorce
Chapter 12- Creating your own Parenting plan (child arrangements)
Essentially, the divorce process builds in 5 months from the date of the divorce application to the date of the conditional divorce order, to reach a mediated financial agreement which you can then ask the Judge to make binding, once you have your conditional divorce order.
This should be plenty of time if you used a skilled mediator and work together with your former partner in mediation.
Divorce online/Digital service
Where you are using the online service, simply complete the divorce application
After the application is issued you and your former partner will receive a reference number and access code to sign in with (this is the case for both sole and joint application)
To use the online service you will need to agree to receive emails.
That said, the system enables you to keep your contact details private
On to Step 3, responding to a divorce application using form D10.
