Part 1 of the Manual is your ‘doorway’ into the world of options you face when you separate, providing you with the essential information  to be able to make the best choices for you and your family about how to navigate your separation and divorce process.

This first part of our divorce and mediation tool introduces you to the ‘Supported mediation‘ process and explains what you can do early on to support yourself, and your children ensuring that things do  not get out of hand.  

Use this first part to prepare and support yourself to take the first step on the mediated divorce journey and arrange a MIAM (mediation information and assessment meeting) with a mediator and gather the information you need to make the right choices.

PART 2 of the Divorce Manual

You have now decided to enter the ‘mediation doorway’ and wish to assess whether mediation is for you.

Part 2 prepares you for your MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment meeting) and takes you step by step through how to complete the pre-mediation questionnaire helping you to clarify your priorities and concerns and prepare yourselves for the different stages of divorce, as you seek to find a fair divorce settlement and sort out your child arrangements.

 You will find a detailed chapter about how to ‘communicate together’ in mediation. The quality of your communication will be crucial to the success of the mediation process. You will also find information about how to work with a Coach to support you with this.

Also, discover how to how to work with your solicitor in the most effectively and efficiently, supporting you at each stage of the divorce and mediation process, as part of your mediation support team.

PART 3 of the Divorce Manual

Part 3 helps you do your own divorce, work out whether spousal maintenance is payable, complete your financial statement (Form E) ready for your financial mediation and reach a fair financial settlement in mediation.

There are also chapters dedicated to Pensions on Divorce and Business interests on Divorce, covering what you need to know about these areas and signposts you to additional information and support when needed.

Part 4 provides parents with information and supporting documents needed to work with the mediator to create an effective co-parenting plan together.

There are important questionnaires and a Parenting Plan to complete ensuring that both parents feel fully prepared to work together effectively in mediation, maximising the chances of success.

Part 4 covers some of the more common effects of parent’s separation on children of different age groups highlighting the need for parents to improve their co-parenting relationship and keep conflict away from their children, whenever possible.

Child inclusive mediation involves giving children and young people (of an appropriate age) an opportunity to be able to express their wishes and feelings (‘a voice’) (without pressure or influence) to an independent child expert (Direct Child Consultant) when their parents separate, using the mediation session to make important decisions about them.
